Using the science and wonder of outdoor education, Into the Outdoors strives to excite and empower the next generation to become responsible and sustainable stewards of Planet Earth. Airing for over 20 years and earning 18 Emmy® Awards from the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, Into the Outdoors is proud to be the nation’s only educational and informative (E/I) youth outdoor education series.
Our History
Rewinding over 20 years ago, Into the Outdoors began as a brainchild of Dick Rose, an avid fisherman and outdoor enthusiast, who had a passion for educating youth about the natural world and its wonders. With the help of Discover Mediaworks, in 2001, his idea became a reality through the initial public and private partnerships with the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, under Governor Tommy Thompson.
What we do
Today, Into the Outdoors curates a diverse collection of content focusing on the environment and sustainability and covers several significant subjects throughout North America, such as fish & wildlife conservation, with the same mission and no geographic boundaries. It’s widely broadcasted on PBS and used in classrooms across the continent.
Why We’re Different
Through developing partnerships with synergistic organizations that care about the future of our youth and the greater Planet, Into the Outdoors, alongside such integral partners, works to encourage future generations to learn and actively participate in our greater mission of stewardship. Together, they work in tandem and are committed to creating the future stewards of our environment, while getting them active outdoors, like fishing Lake Michigan and beyond.
How We Do It
Into the Outdoors not only finds the stories but also creates them through a production team of Emmy® award-winning storytellers. These stories follow STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, & Mathematics) guidelines and serve as educational yet entertaining forms of content, with valuable corresponding curricula.
